Different.

The students couldn't wait to get out into the world and show everyone all they had learned about independence, individualism, and what set them apart from everyone else.

Memories

Yes, these were the same students who were generally absent from or late to class. Yet, here they were, on their own time, doing everything they could to get into classrooms in order to take photos. Silly, students, you could have had even MORE great memories about this classroom if you had shown up to class. At the time that class was actually meeting, I mean.

Observation

"Hm," thought the professor. "Perhaps it is that time in the semester when students are not getting quite enough sleep."

Persisting

Students were doing all they could just to stay afloat through the semester. Some were more creative about it than others.

Quick Question...

The students noticed that Prof drank a LOT of water during today's lecture. When the lecture ran long, the students became annoyed and decided to form a long line in order to ask questions to delay Prof's trip to the restroom. Everyone learned valuable lessons that day.

Painting

Every day is a day that you add a bit to the masterpiece of your life. What you learn, what you teach, the questions you ask all add to the mural of your learning.

And yes, you can paint over and do-over the parts you don't like. However, they still can be useful, so think twice before doing that.

Also, don't literally paint the mural of learning on the wall of a building. You get in trouble for that.

Love

This is a week people talk a lot about love. You can love a person romantically or platonically. You can love chocolate or your cat. You can love a movie or a season.

You can also love it when class is canceled, but you might not want to say to your teacher, "I love it when class is canceled." They might not love it if you do that.

Reading

Prof had to turn away for a moment. It was the first time that every student in class raised their hand to answer a question about the reading. 

What? "Did they all REALLY do the reading?" you ask? Whether everyone had REALLY read the assignments is unclear. Plus, that's not the point.

(pause)

Why'd you have to go and ruin a beautiful moment with your questions???

Humor

"You're hilarious!" the student said as the rest of them laughed. The professor wasn't sure what was funny about, "Make sure you proofread and also have a friend proofread your paper." 

Intuitive

"Sometimes," the professor thought, "There is a student in class you have to pay a little extra attention to. I think I know which one it is in this class."

Self Care

Students should always remember that you are what you eat. Is the person who ate this strong as a bull and quick as a bunny? 

No. The person who ate this is a rabbit-cow.

Fear

"I hope they don't pick up on how scared I am," thought the new assistant professor.

Perception

How the world thinks faculty members spend their semester break.

How faculty members ACTUALLY spend their semester break (working on promotion and tenure materials, reading feedback from "Reviewer 2" on manuscript and conference submissions, etc.).

Oops.

The student realized - a bit too late - that this indeed was NOT rocket science.

Timing

That moment you have to high five your friend because you both waited most of the semester to do your laundry, you got to the laundry room at the same time, and there were enough machines for all of both of your loads.

FYI

Just so you know, "I had an ice cream headache" does not always count as a legitimate reason for a class absence.

Observations

The class got the sense that Prof was going to be a little prickly today.

Knowledge

No one was sure why, but it was VERY important to the professor that the class know the difference between a lectern and a podium. Once a semester, what came to be known as the "Lectern Lecture" would take place. That particular class meeting was often not very well attended.

Balance

After a few weeks of fast food, streaming shows, working on projects, and only leaving the house to go to class and work, you might want to mix it up a bit by getting outside and visiting nature.

Or at least getting outside to take out the trash.

Planning

When you turned down every social invitation for the weekend because you're behind on the three papers and two projects due on Monday and THAT'S the weekend Mom drives into town for a surprise visit.
